Zeroland is a 'best of' arts, literature and culture website index: a curated,  systematic and comprehensive index of authoritative, inspiring (and often entertaining) arts webpages from around the world. Topics are indexed alphabetically and by category such as subject, genre, period, name or country.
    As a result, you can find many websites that often do not appear in the results of major search engines. Sites are not listed in this directory according to their popularity as ranked by major search engines, and, indeed,  it includes references to many 'niche' sites which we consider to be value and interest and yet may barely show up in the top results of such search engine
      Zeroland is not simply a money-making operation - we established this site out of a belief in the value of the arts, not only for their own sake, but  for their role in making people's lives richer. We would like to be seen as an authoritative reference for arts-related websites from around the world.
   Zeroland links to arts webpages of special artistic, literary, imaginative, scholarly, informative or historical value and  are predominantly gathered from named, as opposed to anonymous, sources such as reputable universities, schools, museums, galleries, organizations, scholars, artists and writers.
   Zeroland is intended to be used not only by students and professionals, but also by the casual, interested visitor.
   To maintain the integrity of the site's content, advertising appears only in the left-hand and right-hand columns of each page, as well as at the foot of the page; links in the main body of the index are not subject to any listing fees and appear only becauuse they have been reviewed and accepted by the site's editors.
   Because links are removed only if they cease to function, Zeroland is intended as a permanent record or 'library' of annotated links to arts and humanities websites.
   The directory is updated almost daily to ensure it includes new content and remains free of unbroken links. If you find new, interesting websites (or broken links!) please don't hesitate to let us know.
   We have tried to ensure this site does not link, whether directly or indirectly, to webpage s containing material which might conventionally be termed 'offensive'.

Websites from all areas and countries  -  the US, South America, Europe, Britain, The Middle East, Russia, China, all parts of Asia, Africa and Oceania - are welcome. This site is an international arts portal, after all!

Why the name Zeroland?
‘Zero,’ or the numeral ‘0,’ is intended to suggest ideas of unity, 'bounded' infinity and, combined with 'land,' a sort of neutral, borderless, ‘virtual’ country existing only on the internet - a nowhereland (Samuel Butler's novel Erewhon - 'nowhere' spelt backwards). Zeroland was also founded around the year 2000 (the year of the three zeroes).
